The City of Vásárosnamény has prepared a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) to address the transport problems in the municipality, with the support of Mobilissimus. Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) is a transport planning approach developed by the European Union that focuses on people - the inhabitants of the city. This has resulted in a new medium- and long-term transport strategy for the city, with a 30-year perspective and short-term operational measures.
For this project, the planner prepared a participatory map questionnaire to find out about the transport habits and perceived problems of the inhabitants of the city and its surroundings. The results of the questionnaire will help to better respond to the needs of the city's inhabitants and to address their daily challenges.
In addition to the residents' questionnaire, a partnership questionnaire and partnership meetings were also used to support the planning process. These involved representatives of institutions, offices and major employers to map the transport challenges in the city and its vicinity.
During the planning process, Mobilissimus informed the city council twice about the results of the work carried out, the status of the planning and the next steps ahead. Once in spring 2024, after the assessment phase, and again in autumn 2024, after the public consultation version was completed. The planning and the coordination of the partnership was facilitated by the Urban Development Department of the municipality, with the involvement of the other relevant areas of the municipality.
The SUMP of Vásárosnamény was already prepared on the basis of the renewed SUMP planning guidelines and was accompanied for the first time by the quality assurance of the Institute of Transport Science and Logistics, which included several checks and confirmations of the validity of the process.
The planning document was adopted by the Vásárosnamény City Council on 27 November 2024, thus officially laying the foundations for the sustainable and long-term development of the city's transport system.
